Riley Ann Sawyers (AKA Baby Grace) was only 2-years-old when her life ended. But at first, her true identity was not known. Her grandmother identified her after seeing a sketch of the child. Her body was discovered in Galveston Bay. Riley's mother was a teenager when she gave birth to her. Riley's mother Kimberly left her boyfriend, Riley's father, for a man she had spoken to online. The man she had left for, Royce, believed in strict discipline of Riley. Kimberly and Royce admitted to beating Riley to death, beating her with leather belts, holding her head underwater, and throwing her across the room by her hair. When they realized she was dead, they put in in plastic bags, and kept her in storage for 2 months before disposing of her body.

Kimberly was convicted of capital murder, and was given a life sentence with no possibility of parole; Royce faces charges of capital murder and tampering with crime scene evidence, but as of now, his trial has not begun.

Baby P (AKA Child A) 2006-2007

BabyPbabyA.jpg picture by violettay_2006

Baby P is the alias of a 17-month-old boy that was killed by his mother and her boyfriend in London. He had suffered from over 50 injuries, and social services saw him many times. A court order issued by the High Court in england prevents people from knowing the identity of Baby P, or his mother and her boyfriend. Baby P was taken out of the custody of his mother after bruises were found on his face and chest, but his mother was given back custody of him. Baby P was then taken to the hospital due to injuries he had sustained, and his mother was arrested. Baby P was seen by a paediatrician that revealed that he suffered from a broken back and ribs, along with other injuries. On August 2, Baby P's mother was informed that she would not be prosecuted.

On August 3, Baby P was found dead in his cot at the hospital. Baby P's mother pleaded guilty, and she and her boyfriend were found guilty of causing the death of the child.

Candace Newmaker, 1989-2000

Candace Newmaker was only 10-years-old when she was killed. She, her brother, and her sister were removed from their home and seperated by social services. When she was 7, she was adopted by Jeane Newmaker, a nurse practitioner. Months after being adopted, Jeane took Candace to a psychiarist because of her "attitude and behavior". Candace was treated with medications, but Jeane insisted that she had gotten even worse. Candace then was put through intensive sessions of Attachment Therapy. She died during her second week of therapy, when she was wrapped in a flannel sheet, meant to simulate a baby in a womb. They thought that by her "extracting" herself, it would make her connect to her adoptive mother. Soon, Candace pleaded and screamed for help, saying that she could not breathe. She even stated that she was dying, but no one stopped to help her.

By the time her adoptive mother called 911, she was taken to the hospital and was declared brain-dead the next day due to asphyxia. The sessions was taped and was used in court, and Jeane and the therapist were convicted of reckless child abuse resulting in death. They received 16-year prison sentences. The therapist was paroled in 2008. "Candace's Law" was created to prevent re-enactments of the birth experience.

Not much is publicly known about Kelsey when she was alive, but much is known about how she died. She died October 11, 2005 at her mother's home. She died from blunt force trauma to the abdomen. During the final months of her life, she suffered from a broken collarbone, broken legs, bruises, and abrasions. In January, 2005, social services had confirmed abuse in the home. She was taken to a hospital in April, and it was determined that both of her broken legs were spiral fractures, meaning that they were broken due to child abuse. After that, she was taken into state custody.

At the time of her death, her father was stationed at fort Benning, fighting in the war in Iraq. Her step-father was charged with first-degree murder, and sexual assault. Her mother was charged with enabling child abuse. In 2006, the state of Oklahoma passed the Kelsey Smith-Briggs Child Protection Reform Act.

Summer Phelps, 2003-2007

Summer was only 4-years-old when her life ended. Summer was tortured for 4 months, and was forced to wear an electronic shock dog collar. Her father was accused of killing Summer, but her stepmother is awaiting sentence after pleading guilty for the death of the child. Summer was beaten, bitten, and burned before she was found dead in a bathtub in her parent's apartment in 2007. There is evidence that she was beaten with a broom and ladle, and Summer was forced to clean clothes and pick up garbage.

The couple blamed each other for the death of Summer. Her father was charged with homicide by abuse.

Chandler Grafner, 2000-2007

Chandler was only 7-years-old when he died. He was beaten and eventually starved to death on May 6, 2007 by his legal guardians and foster parents. According to news reports, Chandler was placed inside of a closet, and was not fed until he died. He had a bruised, swollen right ear, and had a mark on his neck. The coroner stated that Chandler only weighed 34 lbs at the time of his death. On August 11, 2008, his foster mother pleaded guilty to murder in the second degree.

The next morning, his foster father was found guitly on all counts: murder of the first degree, child abuse resulting in death, and tampering with crime scene evidence. His foster father, Jon Phillips, was sentenced to life in jail, plus 49 years, with no possibility of parole.

Zoe Garcia, 2000-2007

Zoe was 7-years-old when she died of blunt force injuries in Colorado. Her older sister and her boyfriend had body slammed her, and preformed karate moves on her, beating her to death. They were sentenced 36 and 18 years in prison. Zoe had over 20 bruises, a broken wrist, internal bleeding, and brain swelling. There were reports of abuse prior to her death, but anything about the abuse prior to her death is not very well known. Her older sister could have been abused as well.

Alize Vick, 2005-2007

Alize Vick was 2-years-old when she she died. Her life at home when she was alive is not known, but her father was incarcerated, and her mother was addicted to meth. Alize went to live with a foster parent. A CPS worker noticed bruises and cuts on Alize's body. A neighbor reported that the foster parent was abusive and verbally unrelenting. The 300 lb foster parent would sit on Alize as she begged her to stop. Her grandmother reported that Alize had a fat lip and a black eye.

Alize decided one day that she did not want to talk to her foster mother, and in a pathetic rage, she threw Alize to the floor, picked her up, and threw her again. This time, her little head bounced off the table. Causing severe head trauma, Alize then died. Her parents could not attend her funeral.
