If this if true, then why aren't we doing something about it? 90% of child abuse is preventable...so why is it not being prevented? This site was made to help people recognize the signs of child abuse, what to do if you know a child is being abused, and to give you proof that child abuse is worse than we think.
Introduction
I wasn't abused as a child. I wasn't neglected as a child. I wasn't hurt by my family as a child. But, I know that thousands, if not near millions of children have been abused, or even killed, in the hands of the parents or relatives. Most child abuse goes on unreported. That itself is the very first mistake you make when it comes to child abuse. It is more than just hitting a child; It can be verbal abuse, sexual abuse, or failure to provide your child with medical care, food, clean water, and decent clothes.
2006 statistics show that most children being abused were 3 years old, or younger. It also shows that most children abused were female, and that most cases that were reported were labeled "unsubstantiated", and that more than 1,530 children died that year. And that was only children that were proven to have died from child abuse. That was only in 2006. Imagine how the statisics would be now.
Child abuse is like a disease that has no cure. Disease usually can be prevented, but sometimes never cured. This is the case with child abuse. Something can be done, but people either have no idea that the abuse is happening, or that it is going on unreported intentionally. Either way, at least 4 children die every day from child abuse, and that was in 2003. The numbers have rose, and many people are doing nothing about it.
More than 40% of people in jail were abused as children. Children that are abused grow up to be abusers of their children as well, which only continues a horrible cycle of hatred and hurt. It can't be fully stopped, but it can be prevented. And that is why this site is here.
